Our Story
Academia da Cachaça opened its doors on October 25th, 1985, in Leblon.
It was born from a cherished dream: to give cachaça the recognition it truly deserves.
Founders traveled across the country for a year, tasting and selecting cachaças that would change the story of this once underrated spirit.
And they did it! Cachaça is now appreciated by even the most discerning palates, alongside our Caipirinhas with all kinds of fresh fruits and the “Escondidinho,” a bestselling dish since 1986.
1985
Opened in October, within just eleven months, Academia was already recognized as one of the best spots in Rio. This success was the result of a dedicated team that delivers unique, high-quality products in a welcoming atmosphere, with quick, attentive, and friendly service.
1989
In September, we opened our second location in Barra.
This space features a collection of over 2,000 cachaças from Minas Gerais journalist Ulisses Vasconcelos, acquired by Academia.
The vintages and labels of these bottles capture 130 years of cachaça history.
2003
Launch of Rio de Janeiro’s first Cachaça list, awarded as the best in the city. After a long period of blind tastings by a group of experts, this list (now in its third edition) describes the nuances and qualities of each selected label.

Our feijoada received the Prazeres da Mesa award.
Many awards have followed since 1986.

Launch of our Cachaça Glass, created in partnership with the Vista Alegre factory.

Our caipirinhas, feijoada, and escondidinho are celebrated as the best in town.
